About Jaqueline Cortez Avila, Esq.

Attorney

What Makes Attorney Jaqueline Cortez Avila Uniquely Qualified To Represent You?

As a first-generation Mexican American, Jackie brings more than just legal knowledge to the table—she brings lived experience. She understands the frustration of feeling overlooked, the fear of not being heard, and the weight of navigating complex systems that weren’t built with you in mind.

That’s why she’s dedicated her career to giving a voice to the unheard and power to the overlooked.

Jackie’s strength as an attorney comes from this deep connection to the communities she serves. She represents people—not case numbers—who are often facing powerful forces: the criminal justice system, insurance companies, or legal structures that can feel impersonal and overwhelming. With every client, she brings empathy born of experience, and determination rooted in a lifelong understanding of what it takes to overcome adversity.

Her bilingual skills don’t just allow her to translate language—they allow her to build real trust across cultures, ensuring that Spanish-speaking clients aren’t just included in the process but truly understood and advocated for.

Jackie also knows that representation matters. She became an attorney not just to practice law, but to help change the face of the legal profession—bringing greater diversity, compassion, and cultural awareness into spaces where they are often lacking. Clients who work with Jackie find a fierce advocate who listens intently, investigates thoroughly, and fights tirelessly for fairness and justice.

If you want an attorney who sees you, who hears you, and who will stand up for you no matter the odds, Jackie Cortez Avila is someone you can trust to be in your corner.

Meet Jaqueline Cortez Avila

A proud first-generation American and Georgia native, Jaqueline “Jackie” Cortez Avila was born and raised in Riverdale, Georgia, in a bilingual household where she learned early on the value of hard work, perseverance, and community. Jackie earned her Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Georgia State University in 2019, graduating Summa Cum Laude. That same year, she began working at the Oloko Law Firm, LLC, an immigration law practice in Atlanta, where she served as a legal assistant for two years. Her early exposure to immigration and family-based legal challenges cemented her desire to use the law as a tool for empowerment.

Jackie went on to attend Georgia State University College of Law, where she earned her Juris Doctor in 2023, graduating in the top 15% of her class. During law school, she held two competitive legal internships—first with the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Georgia, and then with the Clayton County District Attorney’s Office—gaining invaluable courtroom and prosecutorial experience. Her early experience also includes a summer internship in 2019 with the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) program, further expanding her exposure to federal enforcement initiatives and investigative procedures.

Jackie joined Sexton Weldon Law Firm as a law clerk in 2022, and after passing the Georgia Bar in 2023, she became a full-time associate attorney. She practices in the areas of criminal defense, personal injury, and estate planning, approaching each case with careful attention, empathy, and a drive to ensure justice is served.

Fluent in both Spanish and English, Jackie has dedicated her legal career to advocating for those often overlooked or underserved in the justice system. Her multicultural background fuels her passion for breaking down legal barriers and providing meaningful representation to clients from all walks of life. Jackie currently participates in court proceedings in Spalding County, dedicating her time to assisting with court calendars specifically designated for Spanish-speaking individuals. She helps ensure that members of the Hispanic community who face language barriers are able to understand and navigate the court process.

Outside the office, Jackie is deeply engaged in her local community and professional networks. She is an active member of the Henry County Bar Association, the Henry County Chamber of Commerce, and the Young Professionals of Henry County. She also stays connected with her peers through her involvement in Sons of Pitches, a local soccer club made up of young lawyers who believe in building camaraderie through sport.

When she’s not advocating for her clients or engaging with her community, Jackie enjoys spending time with her large family and her beloved German Shepherd, Max Boy. Whether in the courtroom or on the soccer field, Jackie brings a unique blend of heart, intellect, and drive to everything she does.
